Outpatient Rehabilitation at Comprehensive Outpatient Therapies
A physician referral isWe offer outpatient rehab services in several locations on both campuses. Many of our services are offered in our Comprehensive Outpatient Therapies Clinic, located in the Fairfax Building, 10710 Midlothian Turnpike, Suite 127, adjacent to the Johnston-Willis Campus. This facility includes 6,000 square feet of treatment areas, including several private treatment rooms and two spacious, exceptionally equipped functional therapeutic gyms. Orthopedic Physical Therapy
Comprehensive Outpatient TherapiesWe help patients with arthritis, neck, back or joint pain, myofascial pain, soft tissue sprains or strains, shoulder impingement and capsulitis syndromes, and patients recovering from orthopedic surgery. We take ample time to perform comprehensive evaluations and our multifaceted approach includes: soft tissue and joint mobilization, full range of modalities, and individualized exercise prescription. Since we are full service rehab unit, we have the ability to consult in-house with a neurological therapist if appropriate. Our therapists provide one-on-one treatment and allows ample time to perform a comprehensive evaluation. Our treatment approach is multifaceted and includes soft tissue and joint mobilization, a full range of modalities, and a customized exercise prescription for each patient. We also have the ability to consult with in-house neurological therapists when needed.
Our Speech-Language Pathology Department offers a Full Range of ServicesOur highly experienced speech-language pathologists are certified by the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and they treat patients of all ages, from infants through geriatrics. Evaluation and treatment is offered, but not limited to, the following diagnoses: Stroke (CVA), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinsons disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Dysphagia, Aphasia, Apraxia, Dysarthria and other neurologically based disorders.
For patients suffering from organic or functional voice disorders, we offer specialized assessment and therapeutic strategies. We also treat patients with neurological voice disorders, such as Spasmodic Dysphonia, and offer the Spasmodic Dysphonia Support Group as an extension of this service. We are also licensed to provide the LSVT technique (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment) for the treatment of voice disorders in Parkinsons patients. For patients who have experienced a total or hemi-laryngectomy, we provide swallowing assessment and education. Assistance in obtaining an electrolarynx or other communication device is offered, as well therapy and education to assist the patient/family in proper usage. Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBS) and Fiber optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) are also offered as tools to further evaluate the swallowing mechanism. Our department also offers VitalStim Swallowing Therapy, along with additional methods of dysphagia therapy, to aid in the patients ability to regain swallowing function. Development of individualized, patient-specific treatment plans are utilized, along with one-on-one direct therapy sessions. Patient and family training and education is also provided to maximize patients quality of life, function and independence. Occupational Therapy. Helping People Return to the Activities of Daily LivingOccupational therapy helps people return to ordinary tasks around the house and at work by maximizing physical potential through lifestyle adaptations and possible use of assistive devices.
Our full-time, licensed therapist helps patients return to daily life activities by offering home and work environment evaluations, suggestions and training in adaptive equipment. Included is education for the patient, family and caregivers. Strengthening of the arm and hand and improvement of fine motor coordination is done in occupational therapy. We also offer SaeboFlex, a breakthrough technology that is helping stroke patients regain hand function, even up to 20 years after the stroke. Neurological Physical TherapyOur patients include stroke survivors, individuals with multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons disease, brain injuries, balance disorders and other conditions. Our dedicated therapists help patients with balance and gait training, general mobility, strengthening and endurance training. Patients receive guidance and instruction in home exercise, use of orthotics and prosthetics, equipment evaluations and fall prevention. We also provide home safety assessments and have the ability to consult with in-house orthopedic therapists when needed.
